JOB SUMMARYThe position of Chief Engineer is responsible for the efficient operation of the hotel property and all its equipment, ancillary maintenance and repair services and protection of Aryaduta assets. Structural aspects of the hotel as well as the maintenance of grounds and external facilities all fall within the span of responsibility. Promotes the desired work culture around the vision and core values of Aryaduta Hotel Group.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Facility Maintenance:Maintain the condition of the physical assets of the hotel by carrying out any upgrading and project work in liaison with architects, interior designers and management. Ensure the effective operation of all the mechanical and electrical systems and equipment by implementing and managing a preventative maintenance program. Closely monitor the condition of the physical property and equipment by conducting continual inspections of the building. Ensure that preventative maintenance schedules are in operation and regularly upgraded. Contribute to the effectiveness of management decision making by representing the engineering department at all executive and team member meetings and by ensuring regular liaison with heads of other departments.
Team Management:Provide advice to senior management on all aspects of engineering support, environmental controls and the operational efficiency of the property.Ensure General Manager and Financial Controller awareness of the Capital Program within the property by conducting regular updates at each meeting. Attend and present to Aryaduta Hospitality Group as and when required. Attend the morning briefing meeting daily and update progress.Ensure the team member is aware of energy management within the property by conducting regular education and training programs on energy conservation and matters related to efficient operation of equipment in a cost-effective fashion.Contribute to the hotel’s profitability by ensuring the effective management of the building's environmental controls and energy conservation systems. Evaluate, control and record energy usage and implement and upgrade energy conservation systems. Ensure the quality of all work completed by both team members and external contracted team members adheres to the standards of good engineering practice. Ensure a technically competent engineering team member by selecting, training and developing a motivated, well-qualified maintenance team. Carry out regular work sampling studies within the department and evaluate the performance and productivity of team members. Provide input as required into the formulation of the annual Business Plan.
Preventive maintenance and Regular upkeepSchedule and conduct regular Preventive maintenance of rooms and public areas in line with guidelines set by ARYADUTA Head OfficeEnsure pest control schedule is in line with optimal scheduling to keep the hotel pest free
Quality Control & Room Inspections:Schedules daily routine inspections of all Housekeeping areas by/with the Assistant Executive Housekeeper and other supervisory personnel. Attend planned weekly walk about of hotel with General Manager for recorded follow up for rectification.Inspects guest and public areas on a regular daily basis to ensure that the furnishings, facilities and equipment are clean and well maintained.
Inventory & Budget Management:Identifies and ensures the highest possible standard of cleanliness, maintenance of all areas in line with standards set by ARYADUTA Head Office.Prepares the engineering budget as part of the annual hotel business plan.Monitors and controls personally all inventories for operating equipment, to ensure the control and maintenance of par stocks and costs.Controls and analyses department costs on an ongoing basis to ensure performance against budget.
Budgeting & Financial Management:Ensure the effective financial management of the engineering department by setting maintenance budgets, capital works programs and engineering plans and ensuring that performance against them are regularly monitored and reviewed. Responsible for the general cost control aspects of maintenance, the preparation of departmental cost budgets and their implementation and submission to management.Ensure the effective financial management of the Capital Plan by setting realistic capital budgets, cash flows, capital works programs and equity asset plans and ensuring that performance against these are regularly monitored and reviewed. Responsible for the general cost control aspects of each project, the preparation and submission of budget estimates to management and their successful implementation.Follow up on monthly Capex utilization for each propertyEnsure the cost effectiveness and technical efficiency of all services performed by outside contracts by close supervision. Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with contracts, leases, services agreements and warranties.Plan, implement and administer a five-year Capital Plan, which is updated annually against Aryaduta funding allocations. Liaise closely with the Financial Controller to meet these criteria. Health & Safety Compliance:Be aware of the duty of care and adhere to occupational, health and safety legislation, policies and procedures.Be familiar with property safety, first aid and fire and emergency procedures and operate equipment safely and sensibly.Initiate action to correct a hazardous situation and notify supervisors of potential dangers.Log security incidents and accidents in accordance with hotel requirements and inform the Chief of Security and General Manager immediately.Contribute to a high standard of quality control within the hotel by actively participating in the hotel’s Quality Assurance and Aryaduta Risk Management Program. Ensure adherence to all statutory regulations and fire codes by regularly reviewing policies and safety procedures for each project. Ensure that any tests and inspections required on equipment are carried out and records maintained. Ensure all building codes and relevant ordinance requirements are met and all building department requirements and submissions are submitted, and final approval is achieved.
Project Management:Take control of Capital Project planning, in liaison with management, to ensure capital funding is effectively allocated and budgeted in accordance with company directives and philosophy. Ensure Aryaduta standards and requirements are effectively met for each project undertaken by liaising regularly with Aryaduta Group Director of Technical Services. Ensure quality standards are achieved for each project undertaken and defects are completely resolved prior to issuing final accounts. Ensure a technically competent project team by selecting qualified consultants and selecting contractors based on previous experience, quality and price. Carry out regular work sampling during the project and proactively feedback to the contractor and consultant team and senior management.
Guest Relations:Contribute to guest satisfaction standards by ensuring that technical support services quickly address, and where possible, anticipate, individual needs. Ensure the safety and comfort of guests and that any requests for service are handled in a courteous and efficient fashion.
Documentation & Reporting:Plan, implement and administer an energy management program by establishing energy reduction objectives, the maintenance of records and regular reporting of performance against these objectives.
Others:Achieve the monthly and annual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) assigned, which will be outlined separately. KPIs may include, but are not limited to, targets related to productivity, quality, efficiency, compliance, and contributions to team or departmental objectives.Accept temporary or permanent transfers to another section, department, or Aryaduta property, as required by business needs and performance considerations.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the superior, which are relevant to the role and support departmental or organizational objectives.
DNA:Minimum 8–10 years of engineering or facilities management experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior leadership role (Chief or Assistant Chief Engineer) in a 4- or 5-star hotel or resort environment.Advanced expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, water treatment, fire safety, and energy management systems.Thorough understanding of local building codes, environmental regulations, fire & life safety standards, and preventive maintenance programs.Proven ability to lead and develop engineering teams, manage contractors, and coordinate large-scale maintenance and renovation projects.Experienced in managing departmental budgets, capital expenditure planning, procurement, and energy-saving initiatives.
